My Midnight Baking Adventures: Pumpkin Pao

By 02:15:00 , , , , ,

This is my first time making pao and I'm so glad that it turns out GREAT and YUMMY too!
Don't know what to do with the pumpkin that has been sitting on my fridge for few days so I decided to search for a recipe that uses pumpkin and here I am sharing this awesome recipe.

The Dough
300g Pao Flour
5g Instant Yeast
5g Baking Powder
90g Sugar
50g Milk (I added 100g milk as the dough was flaky and dry)
25g Butter
100g Pumpkin Puree (blend until smooth)

  1. Hand Kneading: Add all the dry ingredients and mix well. Add in the wet ingredients except butter and knead into a dough. Add in butter and knead into smooth dough. Proof the dough for 60mins.
  2. Bread Maker: Add all the ingredients accordingly (wet stuff first) and run it on Dough Mode till it ends.
*The dough is slight sticky but do not add any flour when you knead*
Knead air out and divide each of 45g each, shaped into balls. Flatten and put the pumpkin filling and wrap it. Steam at medium heat for 15mins. Once done, rest for 5mins before open the lids (to prevent water from getting into the pau). *I used rice cooker to steam the pao (about 20 minutes)*

Pumpkin Paste

250g Pumpkin (steamed and blended)
20g Sugar
1tsp Cornstarch
2tbsp Milk (add more if the texture is too dry)

Put all the ingredients in a pan and with low heat stir the mixture until it become thick.
Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes before using it.
